Amy Neale has been a Beauty Therapist since the age of 16. Her experience includes running salons in holiday parks and on cruise ships, and she learned waxing in Australia, where they use a specific technique. It has always been her dream to open her own beauty salon, but she hadn’t done so due to a lack of start-up funds.

Having gained a great reputation for waxing, she thought “why not set up a business doing two things I absolutely adore?” Amy opened Mooeys in Farnham at the end of December 2013, a beauty salon with a unique theme. The salon specialises in nails and waxing and the decor includes artificial grass and animal print, inspired by the English countryside and farmyards. “We have an English garden area for pedicures, a barn area for nails with buffalo skin footstools, and the waiting area is an English country cottage with a green leather Chesterfield”.

Amy turned to Joanne Brown, a Business Specialist at NatWest in Farnham, to help realise her dream of opening her own business, and was granted a £14,000 business loan to help towards start-up costs. Amy said: “Jo was really understanding and meticulous with detail, which is great for me because I’m a creative, ideas person. I feel that she really does care, she loves the idea of the brand and she is enthusiastic”.
